The Power of Presence
A Series of Courses Offered by Rachel Brooks, MD
“The Power of Presence” is a series of three courses designed to share the knowledge and skills that I have found to be crucial and highly effective in my osteopathic practice. The seeds of this knowledge came from my early contact with Rollin Becker, DO and have grown over time from the experiences and understanding that have come in my 35+ years of practice. These teachings can be integrated with your current approach to treatment — no matter what treatment techniques or approaches you use day-to-day. The courses are appropriate for all levels of practitioners — from those who are beginners to the very experienced.
Course Content:
Power of Presence 1: The focus of this course is on three key elements. These are, the need to be present and how to establish a balanced relationship between the physician and patient; an understanding of Stillness and how to put it to conscious use; and the application of active, compressive forces in treatment.
Power of Presence 2: This course will review and deepen our understanding and use of the three key elements presented in the first course. There is a focus on refining the use of active, compressive forces and exploring a wide variety of applications including treatment of areas throughout the body.
Power of Presence 3: The focus of this course is on understanding and addressing the emotional effects of trauma in our patients. I will address the ways in which I interact with the patient, recognize the presence of emotional factors, and how this understanding informs my treatment approaches.
Format:
The courses given in Portland, OR are limited to six participants. This size allows me to give each person hands-on feedback in each practice session and allows for more in-depth discussions. Courses include 17 hours of instruction usually given over 3 days. AOA CME is offered for US physicians through the Northwest Academy of Osteopathy.
